Women of Games

This is the signature image I recently commissioned, credit goes to Katsumeragi of the freefrag forums. The featured women is an artists interpretation of what Team Fortress's pyro looks like. It has never been confirmed what the Pyro's gender is, but Valve has dropped hints and references that go both ways. I believe (and hope) that the Pyro actually is a women. I mean, that would make the Pyro the only women in a team with 8 men. She goes around in a suit that completely conceals any shape to her body and her preferred method of attack are lighting people on fire and hitting them with an axe. That would just be to awesome for words. IF the Pyro is a girl, she definitely qualifies as the second greatest woman of gaming.

Of course, the greatest woman of gaming is and forever will be Samus Aran. She has been kicking alien butt since 1986, and we have loved her for it. Unlike most of the women in games, she doesn't flaunt her hotness to get our attention. Most of the time she is encased in a big suit of body armor that pretty conceals any indication of her gender.
and sometimes it was the graphics
The fact of the matter is, most video game women sport enormous...... assets for gamers to drool over. Now I am a red blooded man, I like boobs. But its all pixels, so there really isn't much value added by huge chests and asses on video game characters. I won't ever like a woman in a game unless she has character substance. Funnily enough, very little is known about Samus, but the way she stoically handles herself through all her games says volumes about her ability.
and she does look nice, so thats a plus
The thing is, we can't relate to bimbos. I've never met one, and if I did I think they would annoy me. Gamers want our women to have substance. And the mysterious clothing certainly sets our brains a spinning.

If the pyro is a women [sic], what difference does it make?

“IF the Pyro is a girl, she definitely qualifies as the second greatest woman of gaming.”
To start, you consider the greatest woman of gaming to be a vague and ill-defined character with few attributes and almost no story. You choose the pyro, a character that is thrown around at the will of males and forced to engage in brutal acts of violence for their gratification? Yes, I’m sure a character in a solely multiplayer game is a great example.

So once again, you choose another shell. That’s what a female is to you, a dimensionless shell that follows docilely into whatever she is command to? However, I will credit you that this one indeed does have supple breasts. Also, http://ui07.gamespot.com/646/samus04_2.jpg and http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9a/Samus_at_the_end_of_Metroid.png . If you look at Samus in armor, there are noticeable color accents near the breast to draw attention. Also, the two linked in game images clearly show that there is most definitely a sexual aspect to Samus.

If you say those images didn’t matter, nentendo clearly got your attention by just saying Samus is a female. Just the idea of a female you can pretend to control and interact with on what you consider a deeply personal level is enough for you to get excited as evidenced by your above comments.

Who are you to speak for gamers? I think boothbabes and rampant misogynist comments in gaming forums speak enough. Also, I’m sure the only mystery you are trying to solve is whether Samus’s breasts really look that good. Also, if you were doing any real questions of gender, you would be providing real arguments over the pyro’s gender instead of saying how awesome it would be if the character you control had a clit.

  2. Dude, lay off him, he's just a young kid posting on a blog. Maybe eventually he will come of the closet and flower as a feminist.

  3. To the first commenter, it gets exhausting to step by step respond to all the negative comments, so just one thing today. You say that both images of samus are clearly sexual. How in the hell is the 8-bit picture sexual? Notice I did not chose the armor-less 8-bit samus.

To the second commenter, thanks for defending(?) me. I am actually 20 and not gay, but whatever. This blog isn't about me. Its about games.

To both, thanks for reading and caring enough to take the time to comment.

  4. I am rather surprised you consider it tiring to defend your blog. Is your goal in this blog to simply just put out random ideas and receive kudos? Discussion and criticism is an important and necessary aspect of any intellectual discourse; otherwise writing a blog is almost an autoerotic activity.
